McHenry, Illinois, of course situated in the county of the same name, is also known by the nickname The Heart of the Fox. That of course is a reference to the Fox River that runs through it. This beautiful suburb of Chicago has been mentioned in several popular films including the 1999 Kevin Smith movie called Dogma. Now let's go ahead and find out about some of the best dining establishments in the 60050 and 60051 zip codes.
Plum Garden is a Cantonese restaurant in McHenry that serves up some of the most creative dishes you'll ever find. We've fallen in love with their Steak Kew, and their Hong Kong Chicken is packed with so much flavor too! Their Rainbow Won Ton is something very unique that you will not find elsewhere. The ambiance is very warm and inviting, as is the service. They have an excellent staff that's very knowledgeable about the entire menu, so if you're not quite sure what you want, just as a few questions and they'll help you find the perfect dish!

FIREWOOD RESTAURANT & SPORTS LOUNGE
We've watched Firewood Restaurant & Sports Lounge fill a space that couldn't seem to keep a restaurant for a while there, and all the residents of McHenry really love it. We hope this one remains for a very long time. They've got a very tasty pasta bar, and you can't go wrong with the all you can eat crab legs special. The prices are surprisingly low for such high quality food, and you can't beat the service or the fun ambiance. Very cool place.

TOUCH OF ITALY
It's been said that Touch of Italy has the best Italian food in all of Chicago, and that is a very wide claim to make in a city that's known for its Italian food! However we are inclined to agree. This is really an excellent restaurant. We love to stop in for their beer battered cod on Fridays, and any day of the week their baked cheese ravioli Rosa is just to die for. If you love garlic shrimp, they've got a fantastic entree by that name, and also a mussels and clams dish that is sauteed with linguini in garlic and olive oil, or red sauce if you prefer. So good!
Address: 3910 Main Street
Snug Harbor is located right on the water, on North River Road, in an incredibly convenient and beautiful location. It's so close to downtown McHenry, making it a very good place to stop after whatever entertainment you've enjoyed all evening. You will love the riverside patio and deck, and the live entertainment that goes on until 2:00 AM each night will really get your soul rocking. Incredible food, including some of the best burgers we've ever had! Highly recommended.
Address: 801 North River Road
When you want to enjoy some delicious home cooked food with an incredible view of the river, there are few places that can beat Vickie's. This year they're having a Thanksgiving Bountiful Feast Buffet that we're really looking forward to (check their website for current info as this may not apply by the time you read this!), and every Sunday they've got an Island Brunch Buffet that you will really love. Open until 10:00 PM Sunday thru Thursday, and until 11:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays!

BAMBINO'S PIZZERIA & PUB
Bambino's Pizzeria & Pub is a very popular dinner spot in the McHenry area. The ambiance is loud and lively, and it's a wonderful place to gather with friends and get a little boistrous! The pizza of course is fantastic, but honestly we come here as much for the spinach dip as we do for those pizza pies! All of their Italian specialties are delicious, and their selection of wine and beer is impressive. Great live music too!
Address: 1266 North Green Street
AFTER THE FOX
After the Fox has an unassuming outward appearance, but inside you'll find a very family friendly restaurant and bar where you can enjoy finely prepared food and a nice selection of beer and wine. The outdoor seating is wonderful in the warmer months, with a breeze coming in off The Fox River. The fish sandwiches are one of the highlights of the menu as far as we're concerned, and we're happy to report that the drinks are nice and strong and never too expensive! Great service too.
Address: 1406 North Riverside Drive
MacKey's Hideout is a wild little bar where the younger crowd of McHenry loves to go and party hard. You can catch all the games here form the Bulls to the Cubs to the Sox and everything in between. The atmopshere here is dark and loud and crazy, and we just love it that way. It's located conveniently on South River Road, so it's an easy stop after any kind of downtown entertainment that you've been enjoying. Very highly recommended if you're looking for a great time!
Address: 2601 South River Road
Dunhills is of course known for its incredible steaks, flavorful chops, and fine seafood. It's all done in a delightful 1940s style that will really take you back in time. They often have wine dinners that are very enjoyable, and you can check the complete schedule on their website. For an appetizer we'd highly recommend the Shrimp Dejongh or the Baked Goat Cheese, and their Avocado & Chicken Flatbread is really excellent too. Their Spinach Cobb Salad will rival any entree, but the Bistro Chateau and the Pork Osso Bucco are really irresistible. Fabulous food and amazing service!
Address: S Il Route 31
China Town is a fabulous Chinese restaurant in McHenry where you can indulge in all your favorites, from egg foo young to chop suey, from sweet and sour to chow mein. They've got some healthful choices for the crowd that's watching their waistline, including a steamed mixed vegetables with chicken that is really delicious with the sauce served on the side so you can control how much you eat. The vegetarians in your group will really love the tofu with garlic sauce, and the buddha's delight is of course a great choice!
