St Charles, Illinois

St Charles, Illinois, originally known as Charleston until 1839, is a part of Kane County and is one of the larger suburbs with a population of over thirty thousand. Anyone who is familiar with the city knows the slogan "Pride of the Fox," which of course refers to the Fox River. You may be coming to town for the Kane County Fair, the Kane County Flea Market, the RiverFest, or perhaps the Scarecrow Festival! No matter what brings you to St Charles, you'll need to know where you get your grub on. Our favorite restaurants and bars in the 60174 and 60175 zip codes are...

Francesca's By The River is all about bringing the tastes of Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio to St Charles. The ambiance is very contemporary and casual, and we love the low prices and generous portions! On the appetizers menu we absolutely love the Carpaccio Tre-Colore and the Risotto alla Contadina. The Linguine al Sugo di Gambori is an excellent choice too!

We love the Sage Bistro for its delicious fresh food! Their signature salad, the Sage Salad, is one of the best things on the menu, consisting of fresh lettuce, pears, walnuts, bleu cheese, and a homemade vinaigrette dressing. We also love the Baked Mediterranean Chicken which is a wonderful presentation of the flavors of Greece! They've also got a really wonderful lobster bisque, which is tough to find! Very very good and highly recommended!

If you're seeking that perfect Irish pub where you can relax with your buddies and enjoy a pint of Guinness, this is it! McNally's Irish Pub is all about comfort and relaxation. The decor is very authentic with lots of rich woods and dark tones, and the selection of beers on tap and in bottles is impressive. You'll love the food too, everything is good! We've been here many times and can't wait to go back!

Al Capone's Hideaway & Steakhouse is like stepping back into the 1920s! They've got fabulous wines, microbrews, and spirits, plus delicious steaks, premium cigars... everything that you'd expect to find at a real authentic 1920s speakeasy! And how about the phone number that you call for reservations? 1-888-SCARFACE! Gotta love it! The Prime Rib is probably our top choice on the menu, with the bone-in rib eye being a close second. Steak & Lobster is another winner!

ZaZa's Trattoria, also known as ZaZa's Steakhouse, is one of our top choices for dining and drinking in the St Charles area. They've got a fabulous outdoor patio that's great for dates or just for a fun evening of chatting with friends. Their menu includes lots of great antipasti like bruchetta spinachi and mussels in spicy tomato sauce. Their filet mignon is always great, and the pesce bianco alla spinaci is one of our favorite entrees! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Gino's East of Chicago is that famous restaurant with the customer graffiti all over the walls and booths. The ambiance is as rich as its history, and the food is even better! We love their incredible stuffed spinach pizza, and we simply cannot get over their incredible polenta crust. If you've had the pizza a million times already, it's time to try their pasta, which is equally good if not better! You cannot go wrong with anything on Gino's menu. It's all fantastic!

Who doesn't love Olive Garden? We're not big fans of chain restaurants but this is one that we can never pass up. Their pastas, salads, and soups are divine. The ambiance is very classic, reminding us of walking into an authentic Victorian house from back in the day. And they really do treat you like you're someone special. They're always presenting new seasonal items and limited time only entrees, so check the website to see what's new and head down there to give it a try!

Portillo's Hot Dogs is such a staple of Chicago, and we really love the St Charles location. What trip to Chicago would be complete without some Italian beef? Portillo's famous recipe will really drive you wild. We also love their beef-n-cheddar croissant, and their home cooked sweet peppers are amazing! Vegetarians will find something to love here too, namely the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich which has grilled veggies, grilled portabella mushroom, and fresh mozzarella, all served up on a delicious grilled foccacia. So good!
